Other Ways you can revise:
The notes you made and the work that you’ve done in class are a massively important resource. Use your notes as the basis of your revision; look at the exam practice pieces that you have done and at your teacher’s feedback to help you to understand what you need to do to improve.
Use the past papers available on the VLE to practise your skills and to become familiar with the
layout and timing of the exams.
How to revise:
• Re-read notes you made on character, themes, language and so on. As you read, identify the key words and phrases and highlight them. Sometime later, go back and look again at the highlighted words and remind yourself of why they are important.
• Go back through practice essays that you wrote about the texts. Read the comments that your teacher put on them and use these to help you to pick out the things that you have done well in your answer. Look at any targets set to remind you of what else you should have put in to achieve a higher grade.
• Work with a friend – set questions about the text for them to answer or write out a paragraph about the structure or
language of a text with some key words missing then swap with a friend to fill them in.
• Write answers to questions from past papers under timed conditions.
• Practise writing plans for answers to exam questions. Focus on identifying the key points you would make in each paragraph and the
quotations that you would use.
• Make mind maps on characters, themes, settings and language in the novel or play that you are revising. Add as many ideas as you can to the mind map then swap with a friend to see if there are any other good ideas that you have missed.

A word to parents:
The best way to support your child’s English revision is to ensure that they are working consistently: they should be doing
some revision work every week for English. This might be a piece of timed writing, creating mind maps of characters, writing plans for exam answers or one of the other revision activities listed above.
